As the Kremlin massed troops on Ukraine’s border in early 2022, and the threat of sanctions grew, wealthy Russians began flying crates of cash home — with help from Raiffeisen Bank International, Brink’s and Bank of America.
Trade data reviewed by OCCRP and Paper Trail Media shows that the three global institutions moved more than $12 billion worth of foreign currency to Russia just before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Most of the cash was in U.S. dollars, euros, and Swiss francs.

When the MSC Vega docked at the Port of Los Angeles on Nov. 12, among the thousands of shipping containers on board were more than 136 tonnes of cargo destined for The Brick, one of Canada’s largest furniture and appliance outlets.
The 31 containers in that shipment held fridges sold under The Brick’s Brada label and made by Changhong Meiling — a Chinese company on a U.S. sanctions list for allegedly using forced labour from China’s Uighur population.

Guelph’s skies were hazy with smoke from wildfires hundreds of kilometres away last month — and with that came record levels of pollution.
That is according to an analysis of provincial data by the Mercury Tribune, which found the highest hourly concentrations of fine particulate matter in Guelph’s air since tracking began in 2003.

A subsidiary of a major supplier of a Guelph-based solar panel manufacturer has been sanctioned by the U.S. government over allegations of forced labour.
Last month, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced it was putting five Chinese entities – four subsidiaries and a paramilitary organization – on its entity list, effectively barring American exports to those firms.
